Night of the Doctor Review: Sometimes the Simplest Answer it the Right One!

Shhhh, Spoilers, Sweetie!

The BBC posted the Night of the Doctor, a minisode, this morning, and I must say, not only was I blown away, my theory was proven correct!  The minisode started off with a bag, a ship crash landing, a pilot about to lose her life.  Then the Doctor runs in to save the day, but NOT the Doctor you were expecting: Paul McGann our beloved Eighth Doctor appears for the first time as the Doctor on screen since the TV movie!  I was squeeing so loud, a student jumped!  Now I know what you're thinking, Paul stated in interviews that he wasn't involved in the 50th at all, he lied.  Ah no, my time traveling friends!  He isn't involved in the 50th, this is just a prequel!!!  No, Mr. McGann remained true to his word!

The girl he tries to save finds out that he's a Time Lord and wants nothing to do with him because of the Time War, and as a result the two crash land on a planet.  There he wakes up to a group of mysterious women with Time Lord technology who tell him that he has just minutes left and cannot regenerate.  However, they offer a way out: a Time Lord potion that will start his regeneration process.  But they won't give it to him unless he joins the War to end it.  Very reluctantly, he agrees, and accepts a potion to make him a warrior, as he is not by nature at all a killer.  When he regenerates, we don't see who he becomes save in a reflection which appears to be a younger version of John Hurt, but we hear his voice!

So, my time traveling friends, my theory was correct in a way.  John Hurt's Doctor is after Paul McGann's, just not an aged version as I had previously thought.  However, seeing that his name is "The War Doctor" doesn't change the number of Doctors there are.  Matt Smith is still the 11th Doctor.  John Hurt is not the Doctor because he didn't take on the title.  This does however mean that Matt Smith is the 12th regeneration if this is correct, which makes Peter Capaldi the 13th regeneration, but the 12th Doctor.  I know, wibley wobley, timey wimey!  I am SO pleased to see Paul McGann back, and am rejoicing that he finally got a proper regeneration, something fans have been waiting 17 years for.  This makes me SO excited for the 50th!.  And you know what the best part of this is?  Today is Paul McGann's birthday.  What a lovely present to him!

If you haven't seen the Night of the Doctor, here it is, enjoy!
